I woke up today feeling a bit “off”. So I stayed in bed and spoke to myself about the “off feeling”. I started out by saying to myself–(not in judgement or critical voice but in a loving inner tone) “what is going on today?”…The sun is out, spring is in the air, the windows in the bedroom are finally open after a cold winter”–most people would then say in a harsh way to self — “Why do you/I feel this way”. But I didn’t do that. I just laid there and let myself feel the feelings of discomfort. I did fall back to sleep for a while and when I awoke again the feelings were still there.

Noticing that feeling I continued to lay in bed while consciously bringing my mind to my body, putting my hands over my heart, feeling my heart beat and listening to my breath and basically soothing myself. After a few minutes of soothing I decided it was time for me to venture out of bed and to start moving. This feeling is and was the start of my day.  Albeit not exactly how I would’ve liked my day to start. So with this in mind I again moved towards what was happening in my body/mind and asked “if this isn’t how you would like your day to start then what do you want to do to change this beginning?”

This is where the focus and deep connection to self has to show up bigger than what is already there. This is an ongoing process of decision making. You have to “want to feel differently more than you are attached to what actually is happening”! And that my friends takes “work”! Focused intention to YOU. Not steamrolling over these feelings whether they are big (like mine was this morning) or a subtle feeling. It takes time, desire, focus and continued practice to connect to and be in touch with all those deeper parts of yourself.

Here I am writing hours after my eyes opened and I reemerged from my dream state to waking state and I still feel a residual effect of what I woke up to. However, I am in connection to the feeling and moving through my day with the knowing that I have the ability and deep desire to “feel differently”. It is NOT about “the bad or uncomfortable” feeling for me. It is about my connection to ALL OF MY FEELINGS that keeps me in my body and in conscious communion with my life at all times!
